FAQs
what is artist resistance through solidarity?
ARTS is dedicated to supporting BIPOC artists, designers, and cultural workers by providing direct financial resources through microgrants. Our goal is to remove barriers and offer tangible support, ensuring artists have the funds they need to sustain their creative practices.
who is eligible for a microgrant?
This opportunity is open to BIPOC artists, designers, and cultural workers living across Turtle Island. The funds provided can be used for a variety of purposes, including purchasing materials, covering fees, marketing efforts, conducting research, or allocating time toward the development of the work. To apply, individuals must submit a brief project description that outlines how the funding will support their creative efforts. Collaborative projects are encouraged, but only one application per project may be submitted.
do I have to submit receipts?
Recipients of the microgrants are not required to submit receipts or any financial records. This approach is based on a trust-based funding model that recognizes and respects the autonomy of artists and cultural workers. By removing administrative burdens, the intention is to allow recipients to focus fully on their creative process without the stress of tracking expenses or justifying costs.
How soon will I receive the funds after being notified that I am an awardee?
If you are selected as an awardee, you can expect to receive the funds no later than the 15th of the month in which you were notified of your award. (Zelle or Venmo)
What is required of the recipient after receiving the microgrant?
Recipients are required to acknowledge the support from ARTS in any marketing related to their project submission, including the use of the ARTS’ name and logo in promotional materials. Additionally, recipients must submit a portrait photo for our posts announcing the awardees.
